Pippa Cunningham is a British artist known for her en plein air painting that captures the immediacy and vibrancy with which she sees the world. Pippa studied printed textiles and graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1994. Painting in situ, and using her unique sense of colour, fluidity and movement, Pippa demands you to experience the world through her eyes, convinced of its vivid beauty and bold nature. Working in this way, snatching elements of her environment whilst immersed within it, means her paintings envelop the viewer with freedom, life and joy.
These feelings are further pronounced in the subjects she chooses. With travel as a major source of inspiration, Pippa explores landscapes and transports the audience into her unusual perspective. Having grown up on the coast of rural Wales, the sea is a constant source she is pulled to. Each painting as its subject explores a different aspect of its essence.
Pippa has had commissions from Royal Bank of Scotland, private collections and Marie Curie Cancer Care. In 2008 Pippa was commissioned to work on Louis Vouitton’s Cruise Collection, and her paintings were developed into print designs across the fashion range, scarves, jewellery and leather goods. In 2011 she also worked on Vouitton’s Ailleurs collection of bags, accessories and ready to wear collection.
